Science
Promoting environmental responsibility is the emphasis
of most NetworkArts science programs. Through the creation of over 125
ecological mosaics, NetworkArts is working with students throughout the
region to create an outdoor classroom
focused on environmental education. The goal of NetworkArts is to infuse
children with knowledge to
become advocates for the environment.
Topics covered in this area have included the science behind climate change, a 20,000 year timeline of man's use of Earth's resources, green
cities and green architecture, global biomes, bird migration and flight,
ocean surface currents as they relate to land climate, environmental protection strategies,
patterns
of forest growth, history of pollution
in the Delaware Estuary, rainforests, and the importance of wetlands,
among many others.
NetworkArts also offers other outstanding
science programs, including a curriculum devoted to the history of astronomy,
telescopes, the solar system, the life cycle of stars, galaxies and clusters, and the history of rocketry. In fact, a recent astronomy
project was a collaboration with Homer Hickam, best-selling author
and former NASA scientist whose boyhood fascination with rocketry was
the subject of the movie “October Sky.” Tour some of the magnificent mosaics created
from this and other programs.
